Eos Counsell (born 27 January 1976) is the second violinist and founder member of the all-female classical crossover string quartet BOND. She is sometimes credited simply as Eos.

Biography

Eos Counsell (formerly known as Eos Chater) was born on January 27 in Cardiff, Wales.

She grew up surrounded by music in a music traditional family: her mom plays flute and her older sister Tanwen plays violin. Eos started playing violin when she was four years old.

Her brother-in-law is the Welsh tenor Wynne Evans, best known for playing the role of Gio Compario in the Go Compare advertisements on British television.

Counsell has an honours degree from the Royal College of Music in London and is from Cardiff, capital of Wales.

Before BOND, her work included writing string arrangements and playing with many pop groups including The Divine Comedy, Cocteau Twins, Julian Cope, Gabrielle and Mark Knopfler. She also worked for Badly Drawn Boy, Paul McCartney, Aluminum, Harry Potter films, Stardust, HitchHikers Guide amongst others.

In 2007 she worked with her brother-in-law Wynne Evans in a musical project for BBC Wales called “The Shan Cothi Show”. She also worked as musician casting and coordinator on a new feature film called “Hunky Dory”, starring Minnie Driver and featuring young musicians from Wales.

Counsell worked as Benedict Cumberbatch's violin coach for "A Scandal in Belgravia", an episode of the BBC television series Sherlock. Although Counsell's playing is on the actual soundtrack, Cumberbatch was required to appear to be an expert violinist. To achieve this, Counsell was positioned on set so that Cumberbatch could synchronise his playing with hers.

She married the producer Jerry Chater when she is 23 years old.

Works as BOND

In 1999, having already met her partners, Eos started the story of a group that today we know as BOND.

As a BOND's member, Eos composed pieces for the group like “Bella Donna” for the album Born and “Ride” for Shine. She also worked in the arrangements of the song “Midnight Garden” from Classified, which is based on music in the musical “The Swan Lake” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

She offered her voice for the themes in many music pieces of BOND: Viva! (Born), Shine, Ride (Shine), Samba, Midnight Garden and Fly Robin Fly (Classified).

On the 4th album of the group - Play, Eos again lent her voice in the lead single "Diablo", as well as contribute her composing talent in the music piece "West with the night".

In future, she will surely surprise us with creations of her own and keep on showing the great talents that she possess.

Counseworked as Benedict Cumberbatch's violin coach for "AaaaaaScandal in Belgravia", an episode of the BBC television seriesSherlock. Although Counsell's playing is on the actual soundtrack, Cumberbatch was required to appear to be an expert violinist. To achieve this, Counsell was positioned on set so that Cumberbatch could synchronise his playing with hers.
