Play is the latest albums of the classical crossover string quartet BOND. It is the fourth studio album released by the group and be the first album produced by the second-line of BOND. Many pieces from this album was performed by BOND on their tour at Mexico on October 2010.
Play has "Gypsy, Folk and Eastern European influences", as a statement from Tania from an interview. And, likes what Eos had revealed, the album is "quite a celebratory album, good for parties and for playing live".
Play recognizes the contribution of the long-time collaborator Magnus Fiennes (although he was absent in the recent album Classified) with 4 new music pieces (included Diablo) and a remix of Diablo as bonus. The album also included a re-arrangement of Victory, a work by the successful collaborator Tonči Huljić, named Victory 10 for celebrating BOND 10th anniversary and remarking the 10 years of the song since its first appearance also. Moreover, Play had many interesting joint-projects between BOND and others.
The album was firstly released at Mexico and some Latin America countries on June 2011. The international edition of Play has been released world-wide via Amazon since January 2012.
Trivia
- Diablo is the lead single from the album
- Jai Ho is one of the earliest recognized songs from the album and was first played by bond at Llangollen International Eisteddfod Festival on July 08th 2010
- Eos Chater marks her return in composing as BOND with a new music piece: West with the night, inspired from a memoir with the same name, released in 1942, of Beryl Markham, the first person fly solo across the Atlantic from East to West
- Pump It is a mixed inspiration between the original composition Pump It! of Dick Dale (1937 – ) with Misirlou, the original rhythm that Pump It! based on; the track is also written as Pump It!/Misirlou; this song, like Jai Ho was also played at Llangollen International Eisteddfod Festival, England on July 08th 2010
- Last Time is a cover song of Rolling Stones, also has another name: Bittersweet
- At first, Play planned not to have any contribution of Tonči Huljić, as what Eos once said with BOND fans; however, Victory 10, a Huljić's music pieces, was added at the last minutes for celebrating BOND's 10th anniversary, a memorable the milestone of the group; but, as the views of some fans, a new arrangement of BOND from an old song might not be counted as a specific contribution from Tonči Huljić himself).
- Play is labeled as Play for Smile at Japan, as BOND's wish to regain the smile for Japanese people after the great disaster: 9.1 Richter earthquake at Japan on March 2011.
- West with the night was mis-labeled as Midas in Play's tracklist on Amazon Japan page.
- In some version released at South America and South East Asia countries, track 10 West with the night is labeled as Midas when track 14 BOND goes GAGA is labeled as LGG Medley.
- BOND goes GAGA Medley was sold solely as digital single at Japan on 2011.08.10.
