Eos Counsell (born on January 27, 1976) is the second violinist and the founder of the all-female classical crossover string quartet BOND. She is sometimes simply credited as Eos.
Biography
Eos Counsell (formerly known as Eos Chater) was born on January 27 in Cardiff, Wales.
She grew up surrounded by music in a traditional music family, in which her mom plays the flute and her older sister, Tanwen, plays the violin and currently is a violin teacher. Eos started playing violin when she was four years old.
Her brother-in-law is the Welsh tenor Wynne Evans, best known as playing the role of Gio Compario in the Go Compare advertisements on British television.
Counsell has an honours degree from the Royal College of Music in London and from Cardiff, the capital of Wales.
Before BOND, her work included writing string arrangements and playing with many pop groups, such as The Divine Comedy, Cocteau Twins, Julian Cope, Gabrielle and Mark Knopfler. She also worked for Badly Drawn Boy, Paul McCartney, Aluminum, Harry Potter films, Stardust, HitchHikers Guide among others.
In 2007, she worked with her brother-in-law Wynne Evans in a musical project for BBC Wales called “The Shan Cothi Show”. She also worked as musician casting and coordinator on a feature film called “Hunky Dory”, starring Minnie Driver and featuring young musicians from Wales in 2011.
Counsell worked as Benedict Cumberbatch's violin coach for "A Scandal in Belgravia", an episode of the BBC television series Sherlock (season 2, 2013). Although Counsell's playing was on the actual soundtrack, Cumberbatch was required to appear to be an expert violinist. To achieve this, Counsell was positioned on set so that Cumberbatch could synchronise his playing with hers. Besides, she coached Tom Hiddleston in the movie "Only lovers Left Alive" (2013).
She married the producer Jerry Chater when she was 23 years old.
Works as BOND
In 1999, having already met her partners, Eos started her story with a quartet that today we all know as BOND.
As a BOND's member, Eos composed some pieces for the group like “Bella Donna” for the album Born and “Ride” for Shine. She also worked in the arrangements of the song “Midnight Garden” from Classified, which is based on the piece "Scene" in the musical “The Swan Lake” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
She offered her voice for the themes in many musical pieces of BOND, including Viva! (Born), Shine, Ride (Shine), Samba, Midnight Garden, and Fly Robin Fly (Classified).
On the 4th album of the group - Play, Eos again lent her voice in the lead single "Diablo", as well as contributed her composing talent in the musical piece called "West with the Night".
In the future, she will surely surprise us with creations of her own and keep on showing the great talents that she possess.
